Flushing Meeting Hosts “Meet the Farmers!” Forum

The Peace & Social Action Committee of Flushing Meeting worked with Flushing CSA to organize a “Meet the Farmers!” forum for our community.  We were joined by representatives from Golden Earthworm Organic Farm and other local farmers who provide fresh dairy, eggs, meat, preserves, and honey products to members of Flushing CSA.  Participants had opportunities to sample some of the food provided through Flushing CSA and ask questions about how the food is grown, harvested, and delivered.

Flushing CSA is an all-volunteer group of residents who work with local farmers to bring fresh, nutritious, organic food to our community. CSA members purchase a “share” of vegetables from a farmer just 70 miles away. We pay our farmer up-front in April. This investment brings us 26 weeks of just-picked organic produce – delivered directly from the farm to our neighborhood every Thursday, from May to November. This works out to about $21 a week – for up to 15 pounds of organic goodness!
