Flushing Meeting Hosts Mid-Winter Food Fest

Flushing Meeting’s Peace & Social Action Committee hosted the first Queens Mid-Winter Food Festival on Saturday, February 6, 2016.  The Festival was organized by Flushing CSA, a local volunteer group dedicated to expanding access to fresh, organic, and nutritious food in our community.

The Mid-Winter Food Festival provided a unique opportunity to eat, mingle, and learn while perusing some great food and sustainability opportunities in Queens. The Festival included local vendors, cooking demos, and presentations by food experts.  Vendors included local raw honey (“Whitestone Honey”) from Green Earth Urban Gardens, organic spice blends from Spice Tree Organics, New York City small batch fruit jams and preserves from S&V Jams, as well as Moroccan olive oil, spices and almond butter from Sali Artisans!

Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about and sign up for Flushing CSA’s summer 2016 season as well.  The next Flushing CSA event, “Meet the Farmer!” will take place on March 20, 2-4pm, at our meetinghouse located at 137-16 Northern Blvd in Flushing, New York 11354.
