Flushing Remonstrance Study Update

Flushing Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends will host the National Park Service as they update the community about the Flushing Remonstrance Special Resource Study.

The National Park Service (NPS) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Flushing Friends Meeting House, located at 137-16 Northern Boulevard in Flushing, New York to discuss the status of the ongoing Flushing Remonstrance Special Resource Study. This gathering is open to the public and is an opportunity for the community to ask questions and share insights on the study.

This meeting will take place at the Flushing Friends Meeting House, which has been used by Flushing Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends as a house of worship for more than three centuries.  A national historic landmark protected under the New York City landmarks law, the meetinghouse is also listed on the National Register of Historical Places.  For location and history see http://flushingfriends.org/history/  If you have never visited the interior of this building, here is an opportunity to enter one of a handful of 17th century landmarks in NYC.

The study, authorized by the United States Congress as part of Public Law 113-291, will help determine whether the resources related to the signing of the Flushing Remonstrance in 1657 would meet criteria for congressional designation as a unit of the National Park System. For more information on the study process and the criteria used to evaluate new national parklands please visit the following website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/SpecialResourceDocuments.cfm. The public is encouraged to periodically check for additional information regarding the Flushing Remonstrance Special Resource Study on the following website: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/flushing.
