Flushing Meeting Sets Up Fund to Support Community

Members of Flushing Meeting are coordinating volunteers to provide emergency food assistance to homebound seniors and fundraising to support our local pantry, La Jornada, which was featured in a recent report by NBC News: “‘This Is A Tsunami’: Queens Food Pantry Overwhelmed In Face Of COVID-19” and the New York Times: “‘A Tragedy Is Unfolding’: Inside New York’s Virus Epicenter.”

Flushing Meeting has set up a fund to support these efforts.  Those who wish to donate to this fund can do so via our Support Page.  We appreciate any assistance you can offer to help our community.  Stay safe!

According to Pedro Rodriguez, director of the La Jornada food pantry, ‘This Is A Tsunami’: Queens Food Pantry Overwhelmed In Face Of COVID-19 | NBC News NOW

At a food pantry run in nearby Flushing by the nonprofit organization La Jornada, the vast majority of visitors were, until recently, single mothers. Now two-thirds are men trying to feed their families, said the director, Pedro Rodríguez, who worried the number of jobless residents would soon prove overwhelming. “A tsunami is coming,” he said.
